Attendance Policy

The attendance office is located in the 100 building. As per state law, the following attendance regulations and procedures must be followed by all students.

Freedom Middle expects that students will attend all day, every day.

  • As per state attendance policy, the attendance office is authorized to accept only the following reasons for an excused absence of a student:

    • Illness, injury or other medical conditions

    • Illness or death of a member of the student’s immediate family

    • Recognized (or established) religious holidays and/or religious instruction

    • Medical appointments, in conjunction with a written physician’s statement

    • Prearranged absences of an educational nature approved in advance by the principal.

  • In order to have an absence excused, the parent/guardian must complete an Excused Absence form obtained in the attendance office. It must include a parent/guardian signature and a working phone number.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to request the work that was missed, and make up work will only be given for absences that are excused by the attendance office.

  • Ten or more unexcused absences per semester equates to the student being referred to the child study team.

  • Parents will receive an automated telephone call to communicate each of the student’s absences. Please update attendance with changes to phone numbers and addresses.

  • If a student knows he/she will be absent and would like to excuse the absence, he/she should request a prearranged absence form from the attendance office at least 3 days in advance of the absence. These absences must be approved by the principal.

  • Excessive absences will be referred to the attendance dean and the school social worker.
