Dress Code

The dress and grooming of Freedom Middle students contribute to the health and safety of the individual, promotes a positive educational environment, and does not disrupt educational activities and processes.

  • Clothing shall be worn as designed - suspenders over the shoulders, pants secured at the waist, belts buckled, etc.
    Bare midriffs and bare sides should not show, even when arms are extended above the head.
  • Clothing normally worn when participating in a school-sponsored extracurricular or sports activity may be worn to school ONLY when approved by the sponsor, coach, or principal.
  • Clothing that is too tight or revealing is unacceptable.
  • Clothing with holes, tears, or inappropriate patches will not be allowed if considered obscene.
  • Garments and/or jewelry which display or suggest sexual, vulgar, drug, alcohol or tobacco related wording/graphics, or may tend to provoke violence or disruption in school shall not be worn.
  • Gang paraphernalia, jewelry, tattoos or other insignias/items which display, suggest, provoke or may tend to provoke violence or disruptions are not allowed.

Shoes shall be worn. The following are not acceptable

  • Thong sandals
  • Cleated shoes
  • Backless shoes
  • Heelys (shoes with wheels)

The following items are prohibited:

  • Hats, caps, visors, sunglasses or bandannas.
  • Chains hanging from the neck, belt, pocket or attached to a wallet.
  • Jewelry that has any sharp or pointed areas.
  • Hemlines of shorts, dresses, and skirts shall be no shorter than mid-thigh.
  • Spaghetti strapped and tank top type blouses/dresses/ shirts.
  • Night clothes such as pajamas, slippers, or boxers

The principal and/or his designee(s) have the responsibility and authority to make the final determination as to the appropriate dress of any student.

Dress Code Violations

Teachers/staff in any area of the campus or in the classroom will send the student with a pass or radio call directly to the TLC (Discipline Office).

1st Offense:     Verbal Warning (Documented)
2nd Offense:    Verbal Warning, Parent Contact (Documented)
3rd Offense:    Lunch Detention, Parent Contact 
4th Offense:     30 minutes After School Detention, Parent Contact
5th Offense:     1-hour Detention (Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm), Referral, Tardy Contract, Parent Contact
6th Offense:     Saturday Detention from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Media Center), Level 2 Referral, Parent Contact
7th Offense:    PASS, Referral, Parent Contact
